Upper Yough Release Schedule 2023
The water release, or “tide” as the locals call it, reaches town on the standard 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. dam release time at around 4:15 p.m. This means the parade of rafters and kayakers hit town between 4:15 and 5 p.m. If the river has a good bit of natural flow this speeds up to around a 3:45 p.m. arrival in town.
For floating the section below town to the Yough Lake and the take-outs at either Mill Run or Selbysport, putting in at 4:45 is about right. It is 4.5 miles to Mill Run with about half that flatwater (more if the lake is high).
Selbysport (Old Morgantown Road) take outs are dependant on the level of the Yough Lake. Do not venture onto the mudflats if the lake is too low. Check out the take-outs. The take out at Mill Run Rec Area is always accessible.
